Norma taught for nearly 34 years, mostly at Canaan Elementary, ten miles north of Madison, IN. She used her love of drawing to enhance lessons for her first-grade students. After retirement, she opened Rose Cottage Bed and Breakfast in Canaan,
For the next several years she traveled the U.S. and ran the B & B. During travels she enjoyed taking photos od God's handiwork. In 2020, she decided to try her hand at painting the beauty she saw in her travels.
She is self-taught, using acrylics. Her technique and skill are still evolving ... but she greatly enjoys the creative process.

Featured Artist June 2024 - Virginia & Jamie Allen

Virginia grew up in Fairborn Ohio. She got a job while in high school working for Wright-Patterson AFB. She then took a job working for the US Navy in Indianapolis, where she met her husband. They moved from the Midwest to Florida to Seattle to New Jersey, then returned to Indiana to raise a family.
Both being musically inclined, they started a classic rock band, and enjoyed performing in the area for several years.
Virginia has been a fan of photography for a long time, as well. Then came the covid lockdowns, and pretty much all that was open was a local art store giving classes. She and her husband took several classes there for over a year, then moved on to YouTube instructors and The Great Courses online classes.
At the moment, her focus has been, unintentionally, photo realism. She is expanding her art into abstract, impressionism, liquid pours, oil over acrylic painting and drawing. So many choices, so much fun!

I have always been interested in art. While studying to become an electrical engineer I took several art history classes and studied some of the greatest artists of all time such as Monet, Picaso, Renoir and of course Van Gogh. I never thought I could paint, so I did not try. During the COVID lock-down my wife and I started trying to paint acrylic on canvas at a local wine and paint establishment. After 4 weeks we were both hooked.
We started following various artists on YouTube and created a home art studio. I have now started venturing out into oil on canvas and experimenting with liquid pours. I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy creating it.
I think that art is about beauty and love and should be enjoyed by everyone.
Both Ginny and I can do consignment work and can be reached at:

P.S. The handsome one in the picture is JJ.

Featured Artist March 2024 - Jerry Schmidt

I started drawing during high school for class projects, History class and Biology class homework. I didn't do much after high school.
I was drawing in the 1970's and early1980's, but due to raising a family and work, I put my art aside. I took up photography and did studio photo shoots in the 1990's. I also took pictures of sports, for the University of Illinois Sport Information Department.
I retired from the electrical trade in 2000, when my wife and I moved to Madison, Indiana where we restored an 1860 house on Rykers Ridge. My wife and I continued to restore old houses for the next 16 years, using this as our creative outlet. I started drawing again in 2017 when we moved to Vero Beach, Florida.
Chalk is my choice of medium, as I felt oil took too long to dry. I have no formal art training and I am a self-taught artist. I have used book and magazines to get ideas.
I like nature, animals, and landscapes. I find it rewarding to start with a blank canvas or piece of paper and see something magically appear from my perspective of the subject matter. I take pictures and draw the subject. My wife is my biggest critic! But I love her perspective on my art pieces.
